Did you have a good Christmas and New Year? I hope so. Mine was great, until a bout of food poisoning led to 2011 fizzling out and 2012 beginning with a whimper.
To tell the truth, I don't feel on 2012 time yet. Even if everything else rolls relentlessly forwards. I'm feeling stuck between years.
Which feels like a good point to announce a project I've been working on, on and off, for the last month or so.
I've gathered some collaborators for a project about time machines.
Memory, wishes, time machines. There's something about it, and I probably won't make sense about it. From Facebook Timeline to the before-and-after photograph slider in the New York Times, to the precious seconds you save every day thanks to the RFID chip in your Oyster Card. From the musical fetishism that Simon Reynolds talks about in Retromania to the implicit lament for the past that is the diary format of Bridget Jones, to the perpetual rebooting of time in the DC Comics Universe. From the bright lights of the wrinkle cream ads to the crazy prostheses invented by Sitraka Rakotoniaina to help you achieve Matrix-style bullet time.
I'm too excited to talk about it properly. But the project is in the pipeline and it will manifest itself soon in various ways. So I'll be sharing more about it over the next few weeks.
That's all, time cadets. As you were.
